RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE FABRIC OF OUR LIVES

The Loom was founded on the principle that healthy relationships and a sense of connection are the necessary foundation for building a happy, healthy life. The U.S. Surgeon General declared loneliness an epidemic as of May 2023. In his declaration he wrote:

“We are called to build a movement to mend the social fabric of our nation… Each of us can start now, in our own lives, by strengthening our connections and relationships. Our individual relationships are an untapped resource — a source of healing hiding in plain sight. They can help us live healthier, more productive, and more fulfilled lives.“

–Dr. Vivek Murphy, U.S. Surgeon General

A CONNECTION BASED APPROACH

The more that we dig into the research, the clearer the message becomes: Relationships truly are the key to a happy, healthy life. The Harvard Adult Development Study, one of the longest running studies in the world on the human lifespan, recently proved that deep and meaningful relationships are the number one predictive factor of a long and happy life. Our relationships act as a protective factor for harsh life events, and can serve as motivation and encouragement to challenge ourselves to grow and persevere. Conversely, when those relationships are lacking, it can make life feel less fulfilling and more challenging.

This is something we have seen play out in sessions with clients time and time again. A strong and supportive relationship within your personal life can make all the difference in your ability to rise to face the challenges of life. They can also be one of the biggest motivating factors for change.

If you realized that some of your unhealthy behaviors weren’t just affecting you, but were affecting those who you cared about the most, you’re usually a whole lot more motivated and likely to change. This focus on a meaningful relationship extends to the therapeutic world as well. Research has consistently shown that the strength and quality of your relationship with your therapist is one of the best predictive factors for whether or not therapy will be successful.

The Loom is the first psychotherapy practice specifically designed to treat all clients and their concerns through this lens of the significance and importance of connection. Our mission is to help you navigate all of life’s challenges while viewing them through the lens of how they impact your connections with others and yourself, and we’re here to help you cultivate the crucial life skills required for building and maintaining these connections.
